Shallow catch-all tray

Measure
Measure the outside footprint and the usable inside base; thick walls can make them quite different.
Check
Look for a depth that lets you see and retrieve your frequent small items. Check the base finish against your desk surface.
Try first
Try a saucer or spare shallow box first. If everything ends up stacked, the tray has not fixed the retrieval problem.

Document tray

Measure
Check clearance for the paper size, including folders, and the space needed to lift a stack out.
Check
One named purpose, such as “needs action”, is more useful than several unnamed tiers. Check stability when stacked if the manufacturer permits stacking.
Try first
A tray sorts location, not decisions. Give its contents a review point.

Portable work-kit tote

Measure
Measure your notebook, small accessories, storage shelf and carrying route. Do not assume it can support a laptop.
Check
Check handles, stated load, closure and whether items remain contained when carried. A desk caddy and a protective electronics bag have different jobs.
Try first
Test the handover using a box you already own before deciding how many compartments you need.

Drawer dividers

Measure
Measure the drawer interior and its clear height, including runners or lips.
Check
Check the adjustment range and the pressure or fixing method against the drawer’s material. Make sure it still closes normally.
Try first
Lay out paper strips first. Deep compartments can hide the small objects you most want to see.

Reusable cable ties

Measure
Count the bundles you actually need and check the tie’s usable length.
Check
Choose a reopening method you can use easily. Follow cable instructions and avoid compressing or tightly bending leads.
Try first
Identify the cables before bundling them, and keep required access clear.

Route

Cable identification tags

Measure
Check the cable diameter, holder fit and the space available for the tag.
Check
Look for readable names at both ends without covering connectors or manufacturer markings. Use suitable materials for the location.
Try first
Our paper-label maker lets you test the naming system before buying tags.

Route

Desktop cable clips

Measure
Measure the cable’s outside diameter and the desk-edge position you intend to use.
Check
Check supported surface materials, fitting and removal instructions. Leave movement and strain allowance under the device guidance.
Try first
“Removable” does not guarantee a mark-free finish on your particular desk.

Route

Under-desk cable tray

Measure
Measure clear space under the desk, its thickness and any frame, drawer or height-adjustment mechanism.
Check
Check mounting compatibility, load limits and access. A tray is not proof of ventilation or electrical suitability.
Try first
Try a route plan first; do not conceal overloaded or damaged electrical equipment.

Equip

Compact keyboard

Measure
Measure overall case width, not just the key area. Include the space you need beside it.
Check
Check UK layout, required keys, connection compatibility and operating-system support. Think about whether you rely on a number pad.
Try first
A smaller footprint can change your workflow; it does not establish ergonomic suitability.

Equip

Desk mat

Measure
Use a paper outline of the proposed width and depth with the equipment in place.
Check
Check thickness, edge shape, cleaning instructions and compatibility with the desk finish. Confirm whether it is suitable for your mouse.
Try first
A mat can define a working zone but may also cover vents, desk cut-outs or access points if positioned badly.

Equip

Freestanding monitor riser

Measure
Check the whole support base, screen footprint and any storage clearance underneath.
Check
Follow the monitor and riser compatibility, stability and load instructions. Do not infer suitability from appearance or diagonal screen size.
Try first
Our footprint tool assesses rectangles only; viewing position and structural suitability need separate checks.

Equip

Desk lamp

Measure
Measure the base or assess the exact clamp location. Allow space for the arm’s intended movement.
Check
Check the supply, controls, adjustment range and manufacturer guidance. Consider where reflections fall in your actual room.
Try first
A lamp purchase does not by itself assess the lighting or visual comfort of the workstation.

What an Amazon search tells you

It shows current search results, which can vary. It does not verify every listing’s dimensions, material, compatibility or seller. Read the exact product information and manufacturer instructions. We do not publish live prices, ratings, stock claims or claims of personal product testing.
